Basic Recruit Course
Providing the necessary paperwork, medical and security clearance have been completed, candidates are invited to attend a two-week residential basic recruit course.
It should be noted that the course is both physically and mentally demanding. The RAuxAF is a fighting force and therefore physical fitness is a basic building block in our operational effectiveness. The fitter you are at the start the better you will perform - and the easier you will find training. Your level of fitness could mean the difference between success and failure.
Within the first few days you will be required to undertake the recruit fitness assessment; this consits of a multi-stage shuttle run (Bleep Test) over a twenty metre course, timed according to age and gender. It is followed by a specific number of press-ups and sit-ups to be completed inside a minute. Full details of the required standards are provided in the commitment section. Whilst we recommend that candidates ensure they are able to sucessfully complete the above, failure is acceptable at this stage. However, towards the end of the course candidates are retested and at this phase failure is unacceptable, and candidates will be removed from the course.
The course provides candidates with a basic introduction to Service life and discipline. Subjects covered include:
- General Service Knowledge
- First Aid
- Fire Fighting
- Weapon Handling
- Field-craft
- Nucleur, Biological and Chemical Warfare
During the course you will have the opportunity to experience Service life and make new friends. Take this time to decide if the RAuxAF is for you - it is better to admit to yourself at this stage before you end up in a war zone without your cuddly toys! It is for REAL, remember you are joining a military organisation.
