Trades

The primary role of trained reservists of 504 Sqn is Force Protection. Subjects covered include: field craft skills, weapon handling, guarding, nuclear biological and chemical training, first aid, plus many others. Once qualified in their primary role individuals can then embark on training in one of four RAF trades. Except for RAF Regiment all trades are open to both men and women. RAF Regiment is currently unavailable to women.

A brief synopsise for each trade is given below:

RAF Regiment Gunners - defend RAF bases against ground or air attack. They learn to handle a range of infantry weapons including rifles, machine guns and mortars.

Personnel Administrators - train in general Service procedures and administration, Service writing, and keyboard skills and personnel management.

Chef - work is similar to that of civilian chefs except that you learn to cook and serve food under inhospitable conditions "bare based" using mobile equipment.

Supply - duties include the receipt, storage, distribution, accounting and issue of thousands of different items of equipment, plus preparation and maintenance of deployment pack ups.
